Both leagues will see new champions crowned when the final best-of-three playoff matches, set for Kasarani Indoor Arena from 6 to 8 June, conclude, as both Prisons Kenyan and KCB Women were eliminated in the semis.
The men’s title will be a battle between former champions, General Service Unit (GSU), looking to reclaim the title, and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), chasing a maiden title. The women’s clash has a similar script, with Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) having made the final for the first time since their debut in 2018, and Kenya Pipeline, looking to reclaim the title.
En route to the final, KPA dominated holders Prisons 2-0, picking a 3-1 (25-19, 17-25, 25-20, 25-18) victory in Game One, doubling down in the second game with a 3-0 (25 – 21, 25 – 17, 25 – 18) victory to reach the final.
On their part, GSU, up against Equity Bank, won the opening match 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 25-23) on Friday and left nothing to chance in Game Two to secure a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-16) for a place in the final.
Meanwhile, the women’s clash will be a fairytale story for DCI as they chase a maiden title while Pipeline, who were not in the final last season, look to continue their dominance.
Speaking to Nation Sport, Patrick Sang, DCI assistant coach until the untimely passing of coach Daniel Bor, who has since served as the head coach, says he is glad to make his late boss proud. He is banking on their current form against the top teams in their quest for the title.
“I remember before he left for the course, he told me that he was leaving the team in my able hands. Little did I know that would be his last word to me and the team,” the former GSU volleyballer explained. “It feels good that we are inching closer to that goal, and I just want to thank the management for believing in me. I know Bor is smiling in heaven and is super proud of what we are doing.”
